Who Is a Physical Therapist?

Generally accepted definition by practicing physical therapists:

  • Health professionals who diagnose and manage movement dysfunction as it relates to the restoration, maintenance, and promotion of optimal physical function

  • PTs recognize that movement is a primary mediator of human performance to engage in the surrounding world. The primary purpose of all rehabilitation efforts is to enable individuals to accomplish desired tasks and activities under the real-world conditions

  • PTs have a distinct body of knowledge that provides a unique perspective on purposeful, precise, and efficient movement across the life span

  • Roles in prevention and promotion of health, wellness, and fitness range from encouraging healthy behaviors in individuals without conditions to helping individuals with chronic conditions engage in physical activity

Refined Form Physical Therapy’s Inspiration & Formation

RFPT

Refined Form Physical Therapy was established in 2022 in Crestone, Colorado

We are an outpatient physical therapy, fitness and wellness clinic, specializing in movement-based therapies, with a holistic spin on ‘getting to the root’ of the issue.

Where movement meets spirit in a safe and sacred space.

Holistic. It is a word thrown out there A LOT these days. What exactly does that mean? What does it look like in this setting?

A core value in the creation of Refined Form is understanding the importance of “refining our forms.” This value is held in the belief that we all come into this world with different forms - mind, body, spirit and emotion. (Yes, more words we hear thrown out there a lot these days.)

It is important that we see all these aspects of ourself as interconnected. It is even more important that we learn how to listen and respond to our whole self, each of these forms, especially when on a healing journey.

There are times when all a client needs is the “physical refining,” in the traditional sense of physical therapy or strengthening and conditioning. Other times, opportunities present to open up doors to the deeper aspects of holistic healing.

What to Expect at Refined Form

We are going deep, getting to the root, and getting there fast, buckle up!

Just kidding…

Although the Refined Form philosophy seems deep and complex for your inner world, our experience together will be much of what you would expect from a physical therapist or personal trainer, but with some fun conversations sprinkled in.

Expect to engage in movement, breathing, building self awareness, strengthening, and maybe even sweating (I hope!). Some hands on work if applicable.

In getting to know your whole picture, I may present some food for thought. You, the client, open doors and guide the depth to which you want to go in the session vs. what rabbit holes you want to dive into independently.

There are certainly times when all a client needs is straight up rotator cuff rehabilitation, and we don’t see a need to step through any of the mind-body-spirit doors at the time.

*Disclaimer: I am not a trained psychologist, nor a spiritual counselor. I am just a doctor of physical therapy who has seen, felt and personally experienced the connection between mind, body, spirit and emotions.
